Kanifushi in the Maldives

After a couple of flights and transfer through Dubai we arrived at Male in the Maldives and were taken to a lounge to await our seaplane transfer to Kanifushi. After boarding the plane the pilot couldn’t get it started and although the mechanic, armed only with WD40, managed to start the plane, the pilot said he was not confident it would start again once we got to the first island. As we had to visit another two islands on the way to ours we had to change to another plane.

Once we arrived we were taken straight to our suite, right on the beach, but then again aren’t they all. This was classed as “Platinum All Inclusive” and once in the suite you had to let them know what you wanted your various mini bars stocked up with. Pauls was easy – beer but Lynn was spoilt for choice.

Its the largest island we’ve been to but actually think that this is in its favour as there are eating/drinking facilities at either end of the island and with two pool areas (one adults only) the place always has an empty feel to it, even at 86% occupancy… At one end of the island there is an a’la carte restaurant,  Teppanyaki restaurant and a vegetarian one that actually had an Italian Michelin starred chef in residence whilst we were there and the food was superb, so much so it became our favoured venue for lunch. At the other end of the island there is a large buffet style restaurant and beach bar.

Maldives17Whilst walking we found a lovely shady spot that had a swing seat and a “kennel” – Ruby would have loved it only the kennel now housed a fridge full of cold drinks…

As usual there was a full program of activities for those inclined but Lynn opted for the occasional Aquarobics, people watching and cocktail sampling meanwhile Paul disappeared underwater! Click here to see the underwater videos.

As most of you know, we never go to the same place twice – this is one that we could possibly consider revisiting as after being there 10 days we were not seeing the faults or even feeling like it was a “ground hog day”.
