Diamonds Atharuga

Tremendous range of drinks and that’s only on the plane. I was sorely tempted by a Cosmopolitan and Espresso Martini as never had them before but thought I’d save them for resort.
I must say I did have a try of the Paolas de Cos Red if only to sample the “sweet blackberry fruit, tobacco and pencil shavings on the nose”.
Sorry but just couldn’t taste it.

After a couple of very pleasant flights via Dubai, courtesy of Emirates, then a short sea plane transfer we arrived to 34 degrees at Diamonds Atharuga.
Diamonds Athuruga is a tiny paradise located in South Ari Atoll just a 20 minutes scenic flight away from Malé International Airport.

There are two main restaurants for dining in, a couple of bars, and many places to sit and enjoy the views. There is fabulous snorkelling from the house, reef and a lovely lagoon to swim in.

Our allocated room was number 22, which was a twin bedroom water villa which had fantastic Sunset views.

The sunsets here are legendary

The resort offers diverse dining options, from romantic beach dinners to ocean-view feasts. The talented chefs create dishes with fresh local ingredients and imported Italian specialties, blending international and Maldivian cuisine. There’s the freshest seafood, vibrant Maldivian flavors, along with Italian classics like pasta and Neapolitan pizzas. The buffet restaurant has live cooking stations.
We were fortunate to be here when they were doing dine around with the stars. This gave us a chance to sample the food prepared by Austrian Michelin star chef.

There is no trawling or long line fishing in the Maldives only local guys, but every day they came round in their little boat with catches like this.

As we were here at Easter we were fortunate to experience the Sunday gala dinner on the beach which was absolutely out of this world

The house reef at Atharuga is extremely healthy, it has lots of coral and where the drop-off is a great variety of fish life. Around the jetty there are black tip and nurse sharks and in the shallows on top of the reef there is regularly a turtle seen

There is a well equipped diving centre who do trips to see the wrecks, whale sharks and mantas and a resident marine biologist who conducts snorkelling tours to some of the most unique and enchanting coral reefs in the Maldives.
