Cathedral Cave is in Little Langdale just near Wetherlam and is a cavern that is left from a slate mine. It is only accessible via a tunnel. You access the tunnel from a path just south of the Three Shires Pub, this then opens into the main chamber which has a great column in the centre reaching appx 15m and I guess holding the roof up and also a great window that allows the light to flood in giving different views as you move around! Opposite the entrance is another tunnel that takes you out and up to the higher level and allows you to look down into the main cavern through the window. From this higher level there is a longer tunnel that, although you cannot see the end of, will get you out onto the other side of the hill. Next time we are here we’ll remember to bring a torch and have a look in the longer tunnel!  We parked at Hodge Close Quarry, walked up to Cathedral Cave, on over Slater Bridge to the Three Shires for some refreshment then back down to Hodge Close.
