A trip from Newcastle to Carlisle and then Carlisle to Settle on the Northern Belle Steam train.

We got a phone call from the Northern Belle a couple of days before the trip to say that the steam train wouldn’t be running due to a faulty valve.

We were little bit disappointed but thought we would go anyway. It worked to our advantage because they had to do a detour down to Preston to pick up a vintage locomotive engine, this way we got to see all the views from Shap to the Lake District.

We then spent a couple of hours in Appleby before getting back on for champagne and a wonderful meal

What a great day too much food not to mention the drink.

In Appleby we found a garage that was a little bit like a time capsule
