Kathmandu has changed since I was last here, it’s dirtier, noisier and more polluted, but still you can get all your trekking gear for pennies. Best bet is to get outside and enjoy the surrounding areas and possibly stay for only 2 nights. Having said that we did see some fascinating things. We were fortunate enough to be visiting a medieval village when a cultural festival was taking place. Locals were dressed in traditional costume and there was a real party atmosphere. We also got to see the ghats where the cremation ceremony of a ‘high caste Nepali’ was taking place – fascinating tradition surrounding this and an added bonus was that we got to hang out with some fairly spaced out Sadhus, one of whom was naked – niiiccce!
