Day 1 – Arrival
After a lunch time flight from Christchurch we arrived in Singapore early evening. Everyone arriving is temperature checked coming off the plane, good job it wasn’t getting onto the plane as we were a bit under the weather due to over imbibing on last night in NZ. Due to the Coronavirus, Changi airport was deserted, so we were out of there in a few minutes and into a taxi to our hotel. Tourist numbers to Singapore have dropped so much the line of taxis at the airport waiting for fares was over 1/4 mile, with drivers waiting 4 hours for a single fare!
After being temp checked again at hotel we had a quick shower then headed out for something to eat at Makansutra – Gluttons Bay an open air food court on the waters edge.
We then headed to see the Marina Bay Sands free Spectra Light and Water show which takes place at 8pm, 9pm and 10pm. Unfortunately it was been suspended due to the Coronavirus so we crossed the Jubilee Bridge to see the Merlion. The Merlion is a statue with the head of a lion and the body of a fish. The Merlion is one of Singapore’s most famous icons and although touristy, it does have a great view of the harbor and Marina Bay Sands complex.
Day 2 – Kamponglam
Started the day off with a cooked breakfast and sprouts…..
We decided to explore Kampong Glam, the traditional Malay-Muslim quarter of Singapore, now an eclectic and trendy area. We headed for Little India where we stopped for the obligatory pose in front of the colorful Tan Teng Niah, one of the last surviving Chinese villas in the neighbourhood. Then onto Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple where a loud prayer ceremony was in full flow.
After a quick visit to Bugis market we then headed for the Arab area and after seeing the Sultan Mosque we needed a pit stop…….
Day 3
After a late breakfast it was off to Orchard Road for a spot of shopping or should I say window shopping. This afternoon a chill by the pool then off to Chinatown for a look around and trip to the market.
A quick shower and then a trip to Raffles for a Gin Sling and 1/2 yard of ale before an evening on Haji Lane
