When to travel to the Americas
In spring, Canada and the north-eastern U.S. are going through the thaw, making the streets muddy and mosquitos a problem. However, the weather is hot and dry in Florida, Cuba, and the Caribbean where the water is delightfully warm. California, Louisiana and New York, are very pleasant at this time. South America, especially Bolivia, sees the rainy season end in May and therefore offers excellent opportunities. It is also a good time for Central America, especially the west coast of Mexico. In the late spring, Peru, northern Chile the Andes and Brazil experience mild temperatures, dry weather and sunny.
In summer, Peru and Bolivia have beautiful sunny days and dry, even if they can be quite cold at high altitude. North America has at this time a warm and dry climate, ideal for visiting the national parks, but also states like Colorado, Nevada, Utah, particularly in September when the heat subsides and the mountains are free from snow. Try to avoid the deserts of the west which are experiencing scorching temperatures.
In autumn, Canada sees its famous Indian summer, in sumptuous colours, and the northern U.S. has an ideal climate, making it very pleasant for discovering Georgia and Texas for example. The weather is hot and dry in Argentina in October, and you can closely observe the wildlife of Patagonia in the Atlantic. Temperatures are still mild in Las Vegas. Some Caribbean islands have an idyllic climate, yet are still affordable just before the arrival of the tourists, who will be at its peak in December.
In winter, all the Caribbean, the French Antilles, Cuba and Jamaica, are very popular because of their idyllic temperatures, an average of 28c. It is very cold in New York, but the year-end holidays are celebrated and may be worth a visit if you’re not too timid. Central America is nice, as well as southern Brazil, Chile and Venezuela. It is also a good time to explore the southern California deserts and south-western U.S. Surfers enjoy the waves of Hawaii this time of year, and those that enjoy the cold will be dazzled by the white ice of the harsh Canadian winter. Try to avoid the equatorial regions of Ecuador, Colombia and northern Brazil as they are very wet in the rainy season.
