We arrived in San Fran with all national monuments closed due to the federal government shut down, which meant not only that we could not go to Alcatraz, the Golden Gate museum but even public toilets in these areas were shut too. But hey, it also meant there was no one available to charge a toll going over the Golden Gate Bridge and other toll roads – always look for the silver lining! We started out by driving over the Golden Gate bridge, stopping both sides for the views then past San Quentin Prison and over the New Bridge to drop off the RV before crossing the Bay Bridge into Downtown

We then took a boat ride past Alactraz, which was unfortunately closed to a lovely little town called Sausalito.

We spent quite a bit of time around the Fishermans Wharf which is a great place to socialise.

There was also a world war 2 submarine you could visit.

For our last day we opted for an open top bus ride around the city
